Washington today announced that it will launch a new trade investigation into China and investigate the issue of Chinese manufacturers suspicion of dumping silica bricks into the US market.
The U.S. Department of Commerce responded to anti-dumping lawsuits filed by U.S. manufacturer Utah Fire Refractories and stated that it would investigate whether Chinese manufacturers sell silicon bricks to the U.S. market at a price below fair value.
The Ministry of Commerce said that the cost of importing Chinese-made bricks from the United States surged from $19.7 million in 2009 to $43.2 million in 2011. Silicon brick is a refractory material used to build high temperature furnaces.
