The company also signed an agreement on the transfer of titanium dioxide technology for chlorination with PPG Industries. In three phases, it paid US$1.8 million to PPG.
Titanium dioxide is a naturally occurring white pigment that is commonly used in a variety of products, including paints, coatings, plastics, paper, and cosmetics. It is a versatile compound with excellent opacity and brightness, making it ideal for providing whiteness and opacity to products.
One of the primary uses of titanium dioxide is in the manufacturing of paints and coatings. It is added to these products to enhance their opacity, increase their durability, and improve their resistance to UV radiation. Titanium dioxide is also used in the production of plastics, where it provides whiteness and brightness to the final product.
In addition to its use in paints and plastics, titanium dioxide is also used in the paper industry to improve the brightness and opacity of paper. It is added to paper during the manufacturing process to enhance its appearance and printability.
Another major application of titanium dioxide is in the cosmetics industry. It is commonly used in foundations, powders, sunscreens, and other cosmetic products to provide a smooth texture, enhance coverage, and protect the skin from harmful UV radiation.
Titanium dioxide is considered safe for use in consumer products, although there have been some concerns about its potential health effects when inhaled as a fine powder. However, the majority of titanium dioxide used in consumer products is in the form of larger particles, which are not easily inhaled.
Overall, titanium dioxide is a widely used compound that plays a crucial role in various industries, providing whiteness, opacity, and UV protection to a wide range of products.
