According to the project's chief scientist, Academician Li Xiaohong, the project researchers have developed a theoretical system for the development of supercritical carbon dioxide-enhanced shale gas efficiency through fundamental research and key technologies in the fields of supercritical carbon dioxide rock breaking, fracturing and seepage, and replacement of shale gas mechanisms. And technical methods. The specific technique is to inject liquid carbon dioxide into shale gas wells. When the temperature and pressure are above 31.1°C and 7.38 MPa, carbon dioxide is in a supercritical state. At this time, it has both low viscosity, high fluidity and permeability of gas, and high density of liquid. Shale's ability to adsorb carbon dioxide is 4 to 20 times that of shale gas. Supercritical carbon dioxide can extrude downhole shale gas.

In June of this year, the project team conducted the first field trial of shale gas supercritical carbon dioxide fracturing in Yanchang Petroleum-Yanjing 2011 well in Shaanxi and achieved complete success. This indicates that China has made important theoretical and technological breakthroughs in independently exploring the efficient development of terrestrial shale gas. It has reached the international frontier in this field and is expected to open up a new approach to the development of a green, environmentally friendly, and efficient terrestrial shale gas. .
